Out with the old in with the new...

Our oven died around this time last year. I had just purchased all the makings to start a holiday baking frenzy when I went to preheat the oven and the knob would not budge. It had been giving signs that it was not long for this world for some time so it wasn't a huge surprise but the timing was bad.

We didn't get a new one immediately due to finances at that time. Later on when we could afford one, neither one of us wanted to deal with having to wait around for an installer so we put it off. Honestly, the time went by so fast, I can't believe it has been an entire year. Thank goodness for microwaves.

As we were eating Thanksgiving dinner (at a restaurant because microwaves can only do so much...), CR asked me if I wanted to go ahead and get an oven. Yes, please. He said he had not really missed it except when it came to making frozen pizzas. Which made me laugh because he cooks two things, spaghetti and frozen pizza. He is a master mechanic when it come to repairing, building, etc. but cooking is just not his thing.

Me on the other hand, I had really missed the oven. I have read cookbooks and baked for as long as I can remember. I can recall perusing the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook as an 8-9-10 year old looking for things to bake when I was bored. I have to say, I missed the oven for more than frozen pizzas.

Today, our new oven arrived.

As you can see our oven was probably older than some of you. (and embarassingly dirty...probably burnt cheese from frozen pizzas *ahem*)

It kind of fascinated me that it was just sitting in this cabinet. It doesn't seem sturdy enough on the bottom there to support it, does it?

...and in with the new.

It had been so long since I baked anything, I couldn't decide what I wanted to bake first to break it in. I went with chocolate chip cookies. It had been a year since I had a fresh out of the oven cookie. It was so worth it.

Guess what CR is having for dinner tonight? Yep, frozen pizza.

Yeah - a new oven...I remember when you posted the old one was dead. So glad you have a shiny new oven so that you can bake to your heart's content and of course have some frozen pizza ;)!

LOL at CR's dinner. typical.

YUM cookies. fresh out of the oven. mm mm m! i can't believe it took you guys a YEAR to get an oven. hahaha. sounds like something i'd do. "eh, what's a few more days of the microwave". well i guess i've already done this. it's been 5+ years of not having a master bathroom because we haven't renovated it yet. and my grandparents bought me a toaster oven because i refused to use the oven that came with the house (i wasn't skeeved out by if it was clean and stuff. it was also yellow-tinted like yours)

anywho. so i guess i can't make fun of ya for putting it off for forever. i'm impressed. now get to baking those christmas cookies! :)
