Highlighting 2011 in Miss Zippy style...

**
If you haven't signed up for KDUB'S 70.3 Birthday Challenge, shoot me an email at kwhitlock at bellsouth dot net to join the fun. I am starting to accumulate a few fun prizes so maybe all that swimming, biking and running will pay off (well, it won't payoff in an Oprah sort of way but still...)
**

In exchange for a year in review post, here are a few highlights in a format borrowed from Miss Zippy. Enjoy!

Best race experience?
Well, I have a couple but the edge is going to have to go to Beach 2 Battleship simply because it was something I really thought was not possible a year ago or even earlier this year. (Just when I vowed to stop referring to it in almost every post… after this post, I promise, no more B2B talk!) :)

Best run?
None of them really stick out in my mind from earlier in the year. I do good to remember people’s names these days. Ha ha. Last week, I had a fun run with a couple of friends at Stone Mountain. It was their first time running there and we had gone in hopes of seeing some Christmas lights. Sadly, Stone Mountain has gone more commercial this year so you had to buy tickets to see most of them. We did get to run down Snowflake Lane which is a short stretch of road with all sorts of lights dangling from the trees above which was cool. I really just enjoyed running with friends that night.

Best new piece of gear?
My tri bars. Oddly enough, I almost never use them in training. Come race day, I used them just about 100% of the time which makes me think I should be using them in training more. Hmmm.

Best piece of running advice you received?
I don’t know if I can call it advice so much as a jewel that I picked up from Jeff Galloway when I heard him speak at Disney earlier this year. Basically, it was a Q & A session which revolved around his run/walk method. I used a variation of his method for B2B (run a mile, walk a minute) and really think it helped me make it to the finish in an upright position which was my #1 goal for that race.

Most inspirational runner?
There are so many, I feel like I couldn’t name them all. I think the ones I admire most are the ones who get out there and give it a try without any excuses. In their minds, they may not even be sure if they can do it or not but they set their mind on the goal whether it is a 5k or a marathon and they make it happen.

If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be?
Life changing.

Looks like you have had a great year! I enjoyed the review and the B2B sounds AWESOME.
Too bad about the Christmas lights - that's a bummer.

I got a VERY nice package in the mail yesterday. It made my day! Thank you!!

What a great way to be able to sum up your year! That's too bad about the lights, but sounds like a great run regardless.

Thanks for playing along!
