Adrift...

I think I am having a mid-January crisis. I feel like a plastic bag in the middle of the ocean. I am kind of in between training plans right now just trying to keep up a certain level of fitness in swim/bike/run.

WHOA HOLD THE PHONE. I realized as I typed that out how ridiculous it sounded since I have a marathon on Sunday and all. When did training for a marathon become "keeping up a certain level of fitness"? Clearly I have lost my mind. Perhaps I am not so much adrift as just plain crazy.

Seriously though, these past couple of weeks I kind of feel like I am just going through the motions. I am surrounded by people smack dab in the middle of half iron (or even iron) training plans and here I sit feeling like I am doing nothing in comparison. Remind me of this feeling six months from now when I am whining about being too busy. I think I just need to get back on a solid training schedule. Somebody throw me a rope and pull me back into reality!

In other news ...

You MUST try this recipe! (insert picture of said recipe). Sorry, I failed at photographing it because I really didn't think it would be THAT good just looking at the ingredients. I got the recipe from this recipe service I have been using and will tell you about some other time.

CR doesn't like cooked tomatoes or onions AT ALL and said it tasted like something you would get in a restaurant. At the time, I assumed he meant something other than Captain D's but you can judge for yourself. Seriously good. That is all.

Roasted Tilapia, Tomatoes and Onions (serves 2 -3)

4 roma tomatoes, halved and sliced
1 onion, quartered and sliced
2 t orange zest
1 bag of frozen tilapia (thawed, about 4 small pieces)
2 t olive oil
salt to taste (maybe 1/2 t)
1 t thyme

Preheat oven to 400. Combine tomatoes, onions, orange zest, oil, thyme and salt in baking dish. Roast stirring occasionally until the onions are golden ~ 30 minutes. Remove from oven and increase temp to 450. Push the vegetables aside and add fish (season w/ salt and pepper). Spoon the vegetables over the fish and bake 10-12 minutes or until fish is done.

I served mine with brown rice and steamed broccoli. Enjoy!

YES!!!! I TOTALLY KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!

Every year, I focus on tri/cycling from spring through summer. When I switch to cycling/marathon through fall and winter, the reduction in extreme 2-a-day workouts and structure of multiple sports always makes me feel . . . well . . . relaxed. LOL I've come to enjoy it, but it does sometimes seem lazy.

You are doing another marathon this weekend? Didn't you just do one 2 weeks ago? You are da bomb K-Dub! Running marathons like they're just normal weekend long runs! I love it!
I sorta feel the same way with the training. I'm running 26.2 on 2/5 then 2 more half marys and no tri til Florida 70.3 in May, so I'm in limbo right now. Just keeping a good base, that's the name of the game right now and just being able to crank out 26.2 miles on any given day ...yep!

I seriously, actually have frozen grilled tilapia right now. I will definitely try that.

All of us endurance athletes are plain crazy. No gettin' 'round it.

Hey, good luck to you in your marathon Sunday.

I would love to be keeping up a certain level of fitness right now. Darn being sick has seriously set me back this month...Oh, and I have another half this weekend - should be quite fun.

You are quite an animal though to be able to jump in to another full marathon so soon after your last one!

I can definitely relate on the feeling of being lost in training! Thanks for the Tilapia idea, looks great!

Periodization is a tough concept to get behind. Having an off-season makes the tri season that much stronger. You must rest and regroup for weeks or months in order to start base building again. This seriously fucks with me mentally.

I have a tough time with the rest to get stronger concept. Then build a base of miles back to where you were last year, then you can start a build phase to peak at a particular race date (oct 20?). Most coaches don't advise trying to use more than 2 build phases in a year. each build phase must be followed by a rest phase before going back to base miles. Your marathon training should just be base miles at this point. mine is.

I often feel that way right after a race, when there's nothing on the horizon. It will pass, hopefully soon! That tilapia recipe looks delicious!

I know that feeling completely... like you are doing nothing (when in reality you are doing a ton... you are... trust me). Hang tight sista...

I get the blahs in January too, like clockwork. Good thing it's almost over.

That recipe sounds delicious. When I try it I'll take a picture :-). I might try it with Mahi Mahi though.

I'm pretty sure this same feeling is going around so you aren't alone!

I really like tilapia so I'll have to try that recipe.
